Learning outcomes
1. To know the basic concepts of translation theory; regularities and structure of the translation process; fundamental problems of translation studies, types of translation adequacy; types of lexical, grammatical and stylistic differences between English and Ukrainian; translation techniques and transformations; types of interpretation and translation; structural and lexical and grammatical features of abstract and annotative translation.
2. To be able to carry out a complete written translation of texts of journalistic, official business and scientific styles; to carry out consecutive interpretation of social, political and professional scientific information; to carry out oral abstract translation of audio texts and materials of mass media; to understand the meaning of a word in a narrow and broad context, to distinguish free phrases from established ones; to find equivalents and translate internationalisms.

1. The subject of translation theory. Types of translation.
2. The ratio of form and content in translation.

3. Word and context. Lexical differences.
4. Grammatical differences. The words order in a sentence in translation.

5. Lexical, grammatical, stylistic transformations.
6. Non-equivalent vocabulary in translation.

7. Translation of internationalisms and terms.
8. Translation of established phrases and idioms.

9. Grammatical constructions in translation.
10. Equivalence at the superphrase level.

11. Stylistic resources of vocabulary and grammar.
12. Functional styles and criteria for assessing the quality of translation.
