PLO 2. To be confident using state language as well as English and classical languages for written and oral communication, in situations of professional and scientific communication, inter alia; to present research results in state. PLO 10. To collect and systematize linguistic, literary and folklore facts, to interpret and translate the texts of different styles and genres (according to the chosen specialty). PLO 11.To perform the analysis of the language, speech and literary materials, to interpret and structuralize them by the appropriate methodological principles. PLO 15. To elicit the appropriate research approaches and methods for analysis of particular linguistic and literary materials. PLO 16. To apply specific and conceptual knowledge in particular philological area for solving difficult tasks and problems, being able to refresh and integrate the knowledge under conditions of uncertain information and contradictory requirements.

Full-time form

Normative level of knowledge of the ancient Greek language, basic knowledge of ancient Greek mythology and literature, history of the Greek language, dialectology, ancient poetry.

The objectives of the discipline - to study, comment and translat the Homeric epic poems, based on a multidimensional analysis of the poetic superdialect in linguistic, mythological, anthropological and historical contexts. To fins intertextual connections with other works of ancient Greek literature. The discipline is aimed at training specialists with professional skills of text interpretation of one of the most archaic ancient Greek authors. The course is based on the analysis of the phonological features of Homers language in correspondence to the data of historical reconstruction and dialectology, the revealing of poetic technique and commenting on textual gaps. The discipline consists of two content modules. The first module combines topics related to the interpretation of the causes, forms and consequences of communicative conflicts described in Book I of the Iliad.

Lectures, practical lessons, independent work with academic literature, handouts and presentations (Microsoft PowerPoint).

The control of knowledge is carried out according to the ECTS system, which provides a two-level assessment of the material which was studied, in particular the assessment of theoretical training – learning results (knowledge), which is 40% of the total scores, and the assessment of practical training — learning results (skills); (communication ); (autonomy and responsibility), which is 60% of the total scores. During the ninth semester learning results are evaluated at lectures and practical lessons. The semester ends with a module test. The maximum total number of points is 100. Students who score more than 60 points get a passing grade. Students who score less than 60 points during the semester fail the subject and need to retake the academic debts. A detailed description of the assessment forms, criteria and their organization is given in the work program of the discipline, published on the official website of the Educational and Research Institute of Philology.
