Learning outcomes
PLO 3. To apply modern methods and techniques, namely informational, in order to perform successful and effective professional activity and guarantee the quality of research in a specific linguistic field. PLO 15. To choose optimal research approaches and methods of analysis for the specific language and literary material. PLO 16. To use specialized conceptual knowledge in a chosen linguistic field to solve complex tasks and issues, which require updates and integration of knowledge, often under conditions of incomplete or lacking information and contradictory requirements.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Prior to starting this course, students should have knowledge of the theoretical foundations of general linguistics, key milestones in the development of linguistic theory, schools and approaches in contemporary linguistics, and the functioning of linguistic units at all levels of language. They should possess fundamental factual knowledge of a humanities nature. They should be able to apply linguistic tools in practice, possess basic skills in selecting, analyzing, and interpreting linguistic facts, and structure them in accordance with appropriate methodological principles. They should be able to formulate generalizations based on independently processed data. They should have basic skills in scientific research and information management, a critical approach to analyzed phenomena, the use of foreign-language specialized informative sources, and the use of information technologies for text processing at a user level.
Course content
The discipline "Corpus Linguistics and Databases" is part of the elective block 2 "Applied Linguistics" and is taught in the 3rd semester of the master's program according to the curriculum of the educational-professional program "Intercultural German Studies (German and English languages)". Its subject matter includes the study of the history and contemporary functioning of linguistic corpora and databases, corpus typology, their representation for Ukrainian, German, and English languages, as well as the acquisition of skills in research and search work using linguistic corpora and databases.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, practical classes, independent work.
Assessment methods and criteria
Current assessment includes oral responses, additions, participation in discussions, presentations on corpus analysis, and working with linguistic corpora (adding parallel texts to the corpus). The final assessment is an exam.
