Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Before starting this course, students should know general ideas about theoretical and practical philosophy; on the specificity of philosophical problems in
their relationship to science, religion, art as forms of the spiritual life of humanity; about the basics of critical understanding of philosophical concepts and about the main ones
options for solving philosophical problems; about the essence and types of scientific rationality; about the general structure of worldview and theoretical and practical
human activity with the aim of further mastering the criteria for expert evaluations and methods of their professional use in various spheres of social practice.
Course content
The educational discipline is dedicated to working out basic knowledge of the theory of cognition; in particular, about fundamental concepts, methodological principles (principles and methods); and includes the study of traditional and alternative theories and concepts. The main topics for learning: the nature and sources of knowledge, the problem of skepticism, the problem of perception, the problem of substantiation of knowledge, the problem of truth. The assimilation of the mentioned issues is carried out taking into account the central role of the theory of knowledge in Western European philosophy (starting from the modern era to the present), special attention is paid to the analytical tradition, as well as alternative to traditional interpretations of this issue (in particular, under the auspices of practical philosophy).
