Learning outcomes
PRL 2. Confidently possess the state and foreign languages for the realization of written and oral communication
communication, in particular in situations of professional and scientific communication; to present
research results in national and foreign languages.
PRL 6. Apply knowledge about expressive, emotional, logical means of speech and speech technique
to achieve the planned pragmatic result and organize successful communication.
PRL 10. Collect and systematize linguistic and literary facts, interpret and translate texts
different styles and genres in the field of Japanese philology.
PRL 14. Create, analyze and edit texts of various styles and genres.
PRL 20. Apply the acquired knowledge, acquired skills and translation skills for oral communication
and written types of translation activity of texts of various genres and styles from Japanese and
English to Ukrainian and vice versa

Prerequisites and co-requisites
To successfully study the course, students must master the following disciplines: "Communicative
strategies of the English language" (level C1). Also, students should know the main functions, types,
the structure and participants of the communication process; functional styles and genres of English speech;
be able to perceive, select and critically interpret information from English-language sources;
decode the speaker's intentions by analyzing communicative strategies in speech and writing
speech; analyze, compare, compare language and speech phenomena at the sentence, paragraph level,
text; analyze English original texts of various genres; create texts with compliance
norms of speech genre; perform and present educational projects and work in the project room

Course content
The course is designed to improve the effectiveness of academic communication in English
by: acquainting students with the peculiarities of academic discourse, systematization of knowledge
about means of speech and rhetorical strategies of the English language in the specified discourse, formation
students have the ability to produce academic discourse texts in English. Discipline
examines academic discourse and the process of academic communication in today's globalized world
world, focusing special attention on critical reading, rhetorical analysis of texts
the specified discourse, as well as on their creation. The course consists of 2 content modules. Module 1
examines the rhetorical and theoretical aspects of English-language academic discourse based on
extensive reading, listening and discussion. Module 2 focuses on the critical
reading and creating texts of academic discourse.

Assessment methods and criteria
During the semester, evaluation is carried out in accordance with the types of work and the form of control,
described in clause 7.2. The credit is given based on the results of the student's work throughout the semester and
does not provide for additional evaluation measures. Students who scored the minimum positive
number of points - 60, receive - "credited". Students who did not score the minimum positive
number of points - 60, receive - "not counted". To students who scored in total during the semester
less than 60 points, in order to receive credit, it is necessary to compose material on the topics for which
debt has arisen, in the form of writing independent works, essays, or as needed
write a test.
