Learning outcomes
PLO 2. To demonstrate the proper level of English language proficiency in written and oral communication, especially in professional and scientific communication, and present research results in English.
PLO 5. To evaluate and critically analyze socially, personally and professionally significant problems and suggest ways to solve them, giving reason for own point of view.
PLO 7. To apply knowledge of expressive, emotional, and logical language means, and speech techniques to achieve the desired pragmatic result and successful communication.
PLO 8. To analyze, compare and classify different directions and schools in linguistics and literary criticism.
PLO 9. To assess historical and recent achievements in philology.
PLO 10. To describe theoretical and practical aspects of a specific philological area, primarily English studies.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Master students who have fulfilled all the requirements of the curriculum of the educational program are admitted to take the exit exam in English Language and Literature and Teaching Methodology in Higher Education.
Course content
The Exit Exam in English Language and Literature and Teaching Methodology in Higher Education is part of the state certification of graduates of specialty №035 “Philology”, specialization №035.041 “Germanic languages and literature (translation included), first language – English”, and its successful completion (not less than 75 points) is a prerequisite for the assignment of the professional qualification “Higher School Teacher (English language and literature)”. The exit exam is a form of assessing the level of the acquired theoretical knowledge, practical skills and abilities of the graduates, as well as their preparedness to perform the professional functions of a philologist-researcher and teacher. The exam determines the level of knowledge on the current issues of English philology and teaching methodology, and the level of English proficiency, the ability to think logically, and conduct a professional theoretical and applied analysis of linguistic and literary materials.

Assessment methods and criteria
The Exit Exam in English Language and Literature and Teaching Methodology in Higher Education consists of oral written parts, and includes three tasks: a theoretical question on English linguistics, a theoretical question on literature, and questions on teaching methodology. The final score for the answers in the exit exam is composed of the points for all the tasks assigned in the examination card. The maximum score for the exam is 100, the minimum score (a positive grade) is 60 (see § 6–9 of the Syllabus).
