Learning outcomes
PLO 7. To understand main linguistics problems and approaches to their solution by using appropriate innovative methods. PLO 12. To analyse linguistic units, determine their interaction, and characterise linguistic phenomena and processes that define them. PLO 14. To use the languages studied in oral and written form, different genre and stylistic varieties and communication registers (formal, informal, neutral) in order to solve communicative tasks in everyday, social, educational, professional, and scientific spheres. PLO 15. To carry out the linguistic, literary and specialised analysis of texts of different styles and genres. PLO 17. To collect, analyse, systematise and interpret language and speech phenomena, and to use them for solving complex issues in specialised spheres of professional activity and / or studies.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful completion of the following courses: «Introduction to linguistics», «Text linguistics», «Practical course of the English language». 2. Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of the genre-specific functioning of English, understanding of the compositional and lexical-grammatical features of English texts taking into account their pragmatic load and communicative goals. 3. Possession of practical skills of the English monologue and dialogue speech, understanding and comprehension of text of different styles and genres, usage of stylistically loaded language to achieve the maximum pragmatic effect.
Course content
The discipline is aimed to deepen the theoretical knowledge and develop practical skills in the field of linguistic analysis of business texts, which will allow students to conduct an expertise and define the semantic content of a disputed text / statement / lexeme when solving legal issues. «Linguistic expertise of English business texts» is a discipline of the «Business linguistics» specialisation focused at studying the approaches to the business texts analysis, which adds up to the educational and professional training of highly qualified professionals in the field of English-Ukranian and Ukrainian-English translation of business texts, as well as their creation, revison and proofreading. It aims at consolidation of students’ knowledge of linguistic theories, mastery and in-depth development of skills needed to define the functional and stylistic text affiliation, as well as to establish its original meaning.

Methods: lecture, seminar, student’s individual work Educational activities: answers during a seminar, additions to students’ answers, analytical report, test with open answers.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment (total maximum points during the semester – 60, minimum - 36) includes grades for the following activities: Answers during seminars: 10-20 points; Additions to students’ answers: 5-10 points; Analytical report: 5-10 points; Test with open answers: 16-20 points. The summative assessment is conducted in the form of an examination: 24-40 points.
