The purpose of the discipline is to form students' linguistic and cultural competence to ensure effective intercultural communication through adequate perception of the interlocutor and understanding of original English texts. The educational discipline consists of 2 parts: the first part introduces students to the political realities of history, culture, political system, geographical features, prominent figures of Great Britain, the second part - to the corresponding realities of the USA, as well as the peculiarities of the American English. The study of the discipline, firstly, allows to deepen, generalize and systematize students’ knowledge about the role and meaning of the English language in the world and the countries where it has state status, and secondly, prepares students to carry out pedagogical activities as an English language teacher. Classes are held in the form of lectures, seminar classes and independent work. The discipline ends with an exam.
