Learning outcomes
PRN 8. To know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of words, the history of the Polish language and literature, and to be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PRN 13. Analyze and interpret works of Ukrainian and foreign fiction and oral folk art, determine their specificity and place in the literary process (by specialization: Slavic languages and literatures (including translation), the first is Polish). PRN 15. To carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of texts of various styles and genres. PRN 20. Know the problems of modern Polonistics as a separate direction of Slavic studies and demonstrate a holistic system of professional knowledge that determines the social significance of the future profession. Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. successful mastery of educational disciplines: "Complex discipline Introduction to specialization. Ch.3 Polish folklore", "Introduction to philology", "Modern Polish language: practical course" (I semester), "Comprehensive discipline History of foreign literature. Ch.I Ancient literature"; 2. Knowledge of general literary concepts, general information about the historical and cultural context, the basics of literary terminology. 3. Possession of basic elementary skills of analysis and interpretation of texts taking into account the characteristics of time and era. and 3. The ability to master the basic skills and abilities of tracking the evolution of literary genres, analyzing and interpreting literary works.
Course content
The subject of study is the genealogy of Polish Positivism (realism). To give Polish students generalized, systematized information about the development of Polish literature during the era of Positivism in Poland, to systematize knowledge of the main historical and cultural events of the specified era, to familiarize students with the general European context of the development of Polish literature, to acquaint students with the texts and contexts of the second half of the 19th century, the influences of European literature , problems with the aim of highlighting literary visions of important national problems of Polish literature of the specified era; formation of skills of analysis and interpretation of artistic text. Positivism is studied as a philosophy that greatly influenced the picture of the world created by Polish writers. The formation of Polish prose is considered against the background of the formation of paraliterary genres (publicistic). So, the evolutionary process of prose genres covers the assimilation and intensive development or adaptation of genres of world literature: from nonfiction to the historical novel. The evolution of Polish drama and poetry is also traced.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is delivered with the help of such teaching methods as lectures, seminars, students’ individual work. Forms of tuition include oral reports and group discussions at seminars, individual tasks, PowerPoint presentations.
Assessment methods and criteria
The form of final control is an exam. The grade is formed as the sum of points gained in the in-process evaluations of academic progress which weigh of up to 100% of the course grade: 60 for oral answers in seminars, for an individual task, and for a PowerPoint presentation. A student who has obtained minimum of 60 points is granted a successful completion of the course. If a student does not attain a minimum grade of 60 points, he/she is required to submit the assignments set for this course. The final evaluation of learning outcomes is carried out on a single 100-point scale.
