Learning outcomes
PLO 1. Communicate freely on professional issues with experts and non- experts in Ukrainian, English and in two Western European languages, in oral and in written form, use these languages to organize effective cross-cultural communication. PLO 10. Know the rules of standard language and be able to apply them in practice. PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and techniques of oral and written texts of different genres and styles creation in Ukrainian, English and two other Western European languages. PLO 14. Use English and two other Western European languages in oral and written form, in different genre-style varieties and registers of communication (formal, informal, neutral), for solving communicative tasks in everyday, public, educational, professional and academic spheres of life.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Course prerequisites: - the expected level of English proficiency is C1 level of the CEFR; - knowledge of the basic concepts and theories of general linguistics and literary studies; basic factual knowledge in humanities; - skills in producing complex oral and written texts in English; basic skills of abstracting and summarizing specialized texts.
Course content
Translation Studies is a compulsory course in the third term of the bachelor’s program English Studies and Translation and Two Western European Languages. This is a propaedeutic course for a range of translation disciplines included in the curriculum. Its subject is translation as a type of interlingual and intercultural communication. The course focuses on shaping theoretical knowledge base essential for a would-be translator’s competence, learning basic terms, acquiring skills in describing the process of translation, using the main translation strategies, tactics, methods.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The main teaching methods are interactive lectures, practical classes and students’ individual work. The activities involved are oral reports, written assignments, project work.
Assessment methods and criteria
The course ends with a pass-or-fail. Students’ performance during the term is the sum of the points accumulated for their work in class and individual work and does not presuppose any additional assessment. The minimum passing score is 60, while the maximum score equals to 100.
