Prerequisites and co-requisites
To master the discipline it is required to possess basic knowledge of literary history and theory, to command the skills to work with the original and adapted literary and scientific-theoretical texts, classify and systematize developments in the humanities, have the ability to analyze socially significant problems, use fundamental principles and methods of the humanities. To master the subject it is essential to have knowledge, skills and competencies acquired by students from general and professional disciplines during the previous periods of study. The student shall be able to determine the types of narrators, narrative levels, narrative instances and their functions; use appropriate theoretical tools in narratological analysis of literary works; command basic literary concepts necessary for the implementation of literary analytics; apply theoretical literary knowledge and practical skills to work with literary texts.
Course content
The course is an introduction to the fundamental concepts of contemporary narrative theory. Students shall find out the primary features of narrative literary texts, the principles of storytelling. The course introduces to the theoretical foundations of narratology, develops skills and competences to conduct independent research. Acquired expertise is valuable in teaching foreign literature. The subject of the course is the theoretical and practical heritage of literary narratologists. The content of the course is based on the comparative principle. Objectives include to give insight into the theoretical and practical work of literary narratologists, to develop skills of philological and narratological analysis, to develop skills of independent interpreting of theoretical and literary texts using the methodology in terms of the world and Ukrainian context.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Forms of study include lectures, seminars, students’ self-study. Forms of tuition involve answers at the seminars, reviews or supplementary answers at the seminar, creating of a chain of case studies, lesson plan design, modelling and presentation of a lesson plan (group work), written review of a lesson model, development of test assignments, test.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final assessment is conducted in the form of an exam. 40 points can be scored at the exam. To receive an overall positive grade for the discipline, the score for the exam may not be less than 24 points. A student is not allowed to take the exam if he / she scored less than 36 points during the semester. Evaluations of academic progress: answers at the seminar – min 9 / max 15 points; review or supplementary answers at the seminar - min 6 / max 10 points; creating of a chain of case studies – min 3 / max 5 points; lesson plan design – min 3 / max 5 points; modelling and presentation of a lesson plan (group work) – min 3 / max 5 points; written review of a lesson model – min 3 / max 5 points; development of test assignments – min 3 / max 5 points; final test – min 6 / max 10 points.
