Learning outcomes
PLO 8. Know and understand the system of the Ancient Greek, Latin and a foreign language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of the Ancient Greek and Latin languages, and literature, be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 9. Characterize dialect and social varieties of classical and a foreign language, describe the sociolinguistic situation. PLO 12. Analyze language units, determine their interaction, and characterize linguistic phenomena and the underlying processes. PLO 15. Perform linguistic, literary and specific philological analysis of texts of different styles and genres in Ancient Greek and Latin.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) successful mastering of the academic disciplines: "Introduction to Classical Philology", "History of Ancient Greece and Rome", "History of Ancient Greek Literature" and mastering the normative course "Ancient Greek Language"; 2) knowledge of general information about the historical and cultural context of antiquity, the basics of linguistic terminology, knowledge of the history of Ancient Greece and Rome and the peculiarities of the development of ancient Greek literature, normative grammar of the Ancient Greek language; 3) possession of the skills and abilities of lexical and grammatical analysis of ancient Greek texts of different periods and genres.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to create in students a scientific understanding of the structure, meaning, and functioning of the means of forming the phonetic, lexical, grammatical, and syntactic system of the Ancient Greek language. Abstract of the educational discipline - the course "History of the Ancient Greek Language" consists of two substantive parts: 1) Historical phonetics of the Ancient Greek language is dedicated to the following main problems: The system of ancient Greek vocalism in the Indo-European aspect. The system of ancient Greek consonantism in the Indo-European aspect. Basic phonetic laws of the Ancient Greek language. 2) Historical morphology of the Ancient Greek language is dedicated to the following main problems: Historical morphology of the noun, adjective, pronoun, numeral system. Historical morphology of the verb system.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, practical classes, independent work, report-analysis of scientific literature and control work.
Assessment methods and criteria
During the semester, evaluation is carried out according to the types of work and forms of control. All learning outcomes are evaluated in lectures and practical classes throughout the semester. The discipline ends with an exam. The maximum mark for additional assessment forms cannot exceed 40% of the final mark (up to 40 points on a 100-point scale). The final grade is formed by the points received by in the process of performing the declared types and forms of education, and the points received on the exam. The maximum distribution is carried out according to the following algorithm: 60 points (60%) - semester control and 40 points (40%) - exam.
