Learning outcomes
PLO 1. Communicate freely on professional issues with experts and non- experts in Ukrainian and a foreign language, in oral and in written form, use these languages to organize effective cross-cultural communication. PLO 10. Know the rules of standard language and be able to apply them in practice. PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and techniques of oral and written texts of different genres and styles creation in Ukrainian, classical and a foreign language PLO 12. Analyze language units, determine their interaction, and characterize linguistic phenomena and the underlying processes. PLO 20. Know Greek and Latin substratum of the modern academic terminology, possess the knowledge of the metalanguage of the academic description and use it in the situations of professional communication.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful completion of courses: Introduction to linguistics, Modern Ukrainian language, Stylistics of the Ukrainian language. 2. Knowledge of basic linguistic concepts regarding language functions, stylistics, norms of the Ukrainian literary language. 3. Possession of elementary skills of text modeling in oral and written forms, formulation of one's own opinion, understanding of language as a special sign system and communication tool.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to acquaint students with theoretical questions about the concept of scientific discourse, the formation, development and functioning of the scientific style of the modern Ukrainian literary language, and to form practical skills and abilities to analyze and create scientific texts of various genres. Within the scope of the discipline, students' knowledge of the concept of scientific discourse, the scientific style of the Ukrainian literary language, its specificity, functions and linguistic features is deepened and systematized. The main focus is on theoretical analysis of problematic issues, conducting scientific discussions, analysis of scientific style texts, independent creation of various scientific texts. The educational discipline "Ukrainian language and foundations of scientific discourse" is an integral part of the educational and professional training program for specialists at the educational and qualification level "bachelor".

Assessment methods and criteria
The semester number of points is formed by the points obtained by the student in the process of learning the material from the entire educational course. The overall grade for the semester consists of points received for classroom and independent work. All types of work for the semester have as a result: - in the maximum dimension of 75 points, - at least 40 points. Provided that if the student scored less than 60 points and/or wants to improve his result, he writes a final test, which is evaluated: - in the maximum dimension of 25 points, - at least 20 points. For students who missed classes during the semester for valid reasons, it is necessary to complete the missed topics in writing and submit/send them by e-mail to the teacher in order to receive a credit.
