Prerequisites and co-requisites
1.1. Know English at a level necessary and sufficient for mastering the material. 1.2. Have basic skills of analysis and interpretation of language at all levels of its structure in accordance with the initial programs of high school - phonetic, morphological, lexicological, phraseological, syntactic, stylistic, taking into account the view of language as the most important means of human communication, an essential feature of ethnicity.
Course content
The discipline "General Linguistics" is designed to acquaint students with the basics of knowledge in the field of linguistics, the basic laws of language development, the principles of linguistic epistemology, the most important methods and techniques of studying such a multifaceted phenomenon as language.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is delivered with the help of such activities as oral reports and written tests. The teaching methods are lectures, practical classes (seminars), creative and research projects, students’ individual work.
Assessment methods and criteria
The course ends with an exam. Students’ performance during the term is the sum of the points accumulated for their work in classroom (oral reports, tests) and individual work. The minimum score for the term is 36 points, while the maximum score equals 60. The minimum score for the exam is 24 and the maximum score is 40.
