Learning outcomes
PRN 2. Confidently possess state and foreign languages for the implementation of written and oral communication, in particular in situations of professional and scientific communication; present research results in national and foreign languages. PRN 6. Apply knowledge of expressive, emotional, logical means of language and speech technique to achieve the planned pragmatic result and organize successful communication. PRN 10. Collect and systematize linguistic, literary, folklore facts, interpret and translate texts of various styles and genres (depending on the chosen specialization). PRN 14. Create, analyze and edit texts of various styles and genres. PRN 15. Choose the optimal research approaches and methods for the analysis of specific linguistic or literary material.
Form of study
Prerequisites and co-requisites
To successfully study the course, students must speak English at the C1 level; to know the main functions, types, structure and participants of the communication process; functional styles and genres of English speech; be able to perceive, select and critically interpret information from English-language sources; decode the speaker's intentions by analyzing communicative strategies in oral and written speech; analyze, compare, compare language and speech phenomena at the level of a sentence, paragraph, text; analyze English original texts of various genres; create texts in compliance with the norms of the speech genre; perform and present educational projects and work in a project group.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to improve the sociocultural and speech competence of students and increase the effectiveness of academic communication in English by: familiarizing students with the features of academic discourse, systematizing knowledge about speech tools and rhetorical strategies of the English language in the specified discourse, forming students' skills in producing academic discourse texts in English, improving the skills of analysis and use of speech tools and rhetorical strategies in various situations of academic communication, as well as in various genre texts of the specified discourse.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
1. Participation in discussions of topics being studied (auditory work). 2. Project work. 3. Academic essay (integrated reading and writing skills). 4. Academic essay (integrated listening and writing skills). 5. Modular control work (rhetorical text analysis).
Assessment methods and criteria
During the semester, evaluation is carried out in accordance with the types of work and the form of control described in clause 7.1. The credit is given based on the results of the student's work throughout the entire semester and does not include additional assessment measures. Students who scored the minimum positive number of points - 60, receive - "enrolled". Students who did not score the minimum positive number of points - 60, receive - "not enrolled". Students who scored less than 60 points in total for the semester must prepare material on the topics for which the debt arose, in the form of writing independent works, essays, or, if necessary, write a test paper in order to receive a credit.
