Prerequisites and co-requisites
To be eligible for the course students are required to: know the spelling norms of the modern Ukrainian literary language; be familiar with the social functions of the Ukrainian language; work analytically with the academic literature; possess elementary skills in writing academic texts following the demands of oral and written scientific communication.
Course content
The discipline aims to acquaint master's students – future secondary school teachers of Ukrainian language and literature and foreign language – with the functional and stylistic distinctiveness of Ukrainian Scientific Language Studies in both its oral and written communicative forms.
Abstract. The course aims to broaden students' knowledge about the specificity of scientific writing by focusing on an in-depth study of the scientific language potential, which is objectified by the communicative needs of oral and written scientific discourse. The course examines the functional and stylistic specifics of the use of different parts of speech in a scientific text. The criteria for distinguishing the main scientific genres and the principles of working with a scientific text are singled out. Emphasis is placed on the culture of scientific communication of the students in accordance with their professional communicative needs.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course combines lectures, practical sessions and self-study and the following teaching methods: conversation, research work, scientific discussion, written training.
Assessment methods and criteria
The formative assessment components include participation in seminars, written training courses, module tests, and working with scientific texts. For participation in seminars a student gets maximum 25 points and minimum – 15 points; for oral training courses – maximum 9 points and minimum – 6 points; for working with scientific texts – maximum 16 points and minimum – 8 points; for module test – maximum 14 points and minimum – 10 points. At the end of the course, students take an exam. During the summative assessment (an exam) a student can earn maximum 40 points and minimum – 24 points. The summative assessment includes such learning outcomes (LO): LO 1.1m LO 1.2, LO 1.3, LO 2.1, LO 2.3; LO 2.5.
