Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Knowledge of basic art terminology and concepts.
2. Acquisition of skills for continuously expanding foundational knowledge and abilities gained over the previous five semesters.
3. Ability to apply philological analysis and interpretation skills in practice to various genre art texts.
Course content
"Objective: To familiarize students with the basic techniques and tools for writing scripts for fiction and documentary films, explore available resources, examine methods of comparative analysis of intermedial recoding of literary texts into cinematic context (primarily focusing on the adaptation of works from Ukrainian classical literature), and analyze their impact on the development of the contemporary literary and artistic educational canon. A pragmatic goal is to stimulate students to attempt writing their own scripts.
Summary: Cinema, as one of the most influential factors of audiovisual impact, significantly shapes worldviews, the system of national-mental principles, and the perception of one's own history and identity. Meanwhile, the average Ukrainian audience, including humanities scholars, is largely unfamiliar with Ukrainian cinema, let alone the absence of systematic knowledge about our cinematography, which has been in existence for over 120 years. The Ukrainian cinema and television space is predominantly filled with foreign films, and Ukrainian cinema has limited representation on the internet. This discipline aims to fill these gaps by introducing the fundamentals of scriptwriting, exploring achievements in the adaptation of Ukrainian literary classics into film, and projecting them onto the contemporary context. The acquired knowledge, skills, and competencies should meet the needs of the industry, as there is currently a growing demand for Ukrainian cinema and its active revival.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Planned educational activities: oral and written responses (own scripts, presentations, reviews, annotations), written midterm assessment, creative assignments, and final exam. Teaching methods: lecture, seminar, independent work.
Assessment methods and criteria
Response on practical classes - min. 2 points / max. - 3; participation in lectures and practical classes - min. 1 point / max. - 2; written midterm assessment (film review based on a work of Ukrainian literature) - min. 3 points / max. - 5; creative assignment (write a script for a short film) min. - 12 points, max. - 15; Final exam (comparative analysis of a literary work and its adaptation) - min. 10 points, max. - 20. The final grade for the course (min. 60, max. - 100) consists of the sum of points for semester work (min. 50, max. 80) and the final exam (min. 10, max. 20 points). Grading scale: "Pass" - 60-100, "Fail" - 0-59.
