Learning outcomes
PLO 8 Know and understand the language system, general characteristics of literature as the art of words, history of the Ukrainian language and literature, and be able to apply this knowledge in the professional activity. PLO 10 Know language norms and be able to apply them in practical activity. PLO 13 Analyze and interpret Ukrainian and foreign fiction and folklore, define their specificity and place in literature process (according to the selected specialization). PLO 14 Use Ukrainian and English in oral and written form in various genres, stylistic varieties and registers of communication (formal, informal, neutral) for solving communicative tasks in social, educational, professional, scientific spheres of life. PLO 24.1 Use the tools of comparative literature to analyze the literary process, modern fiction, its national specificity and artistic features.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Before starting the course, students should know the main characteristics of literary studies as a science of the art of words; the connection of literary studies with other humanities; possess basic factual knowledge of a humanitarian nature; collect and interpret information about the peculiarities of the development of the literary process in various historical conditions over the centuries; apply basic concepts in the analysis of literary phenomena and processes; use interactive and multimedia tools. Also, students should possess elementary skills of scientific research and information management; critical attitude to the analyzed phenomena; use of foreign language professional informative sources; interaction and cooperation in learning in exploratory situations.
Course content
The goal of the discipline is to form in students an idea of the main differences in the fields of the art of words at the level of high / grassroots literature, elite / mass, mimetic / formulaic (J. Cavelti), innovative / conventional, autonomous / heteronomous (P. Bourdieu), to outline invariant criteria in the system of literary hierarchies that appeared in different artistic eras; to reemphasize issues of reputation and canon.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Planned educational activities: oral answers / participation in the discussion, individual creative project; presentation of an individual creative project; modular control work. Teaching methods: lecture, seminar class, independent work.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final control form is an exam. During the semester, a student can score a minimum of 36 / a maximum of 60 points. Oral answer, participation in the discussion is evaluated at a minimum of 1 / maximum of 3 points; creative project - minimum 4 / maximum 7 points; presentation - minimum 3 / maximum 6 points. A student can score a minimum of 3 / a maximum of 7 points for a modular test. The exam is assigned a minimum of 24 / a maximum of 40 points. Scale of conformity of grades: "excellent" - 90-100 points; "good" - 75-89 points; "satisfactory" - 60-74 points; "unsatisfactory" - 0-59 points.
