Learning outcomes
PLO 1. Communicate freely on professional issues with experts and non- experts in Ukrainian and English languages, in oral and in written form, use these languages to organize effective cross-cultural communication.
PLO2. Effectively work with information: select the necessary information from various sources, in particular from professional literature and electronic databases, critically analyze and interpret it, organize, classify and systematize it.
PLO 7. Understand the major issues of philology and approaches to solving those using relevant methods and innovative approaches.
PLO 12. Analyze language units, determine their interaction, and characterize linguistic phenomena and the underlying processes.
PLO16 Know and understand the basic concepts, theories and concepts of Neohellenistics, to be able to apply them in professional activities.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
successful mastering of the components of the complex discipline Theoretical and practical
course of modern Greek;Modern Greek: introductory course, Modern Greek: theoretical and
practical phonetics;
knowledge of general information about language levels and their basic units; on the historical
development of Greece and Cyprus; main phenomena of Greek culture
knowledge of modern Greek at the level of competencies A1-A1 +; skills of abstracting and
interpreting scientific and popular science sources.
Course content
The purpose of the course is to form preliminary ideas about the continuity of the development of
Hellenism over 4 thousand years, the peculiarities of the formation of the Greek linguistic and
cultural environment at different stages of historical development; to acquaint students with the
research apparatus and achievements of Hellenistics; to teach research activities to solve practical
problems in the field of science, education and intercultural communication. The first part singles
out the subject of neo-Hellenistics in the context of the history of philological science, outlines the
Hellenistic trends: classical philology, Byzantine, neo-Hellenistic. The second one outlines the
linguistic and cultural contacts of the Greeks with neighboring peoples during historical
development; covers the periodization of the Greek language; outlines the main features of the
ancient Greek and modern Greek language complexes, the status of the modern Greek language,
gives a historical and comparative overview of the development of the nominal system of the
Greek language.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Forms of study consist of lectures, practical trainings, consultations and students’ self-study.
Teaching methods include answers at the practical classes, analytical task on the topic given by the
lecturer, report, extra answer / participation in the discussion, self-study work (essay, analytical
task, presentation of the project), test papers.
Assessment methods and criteria
The semester number of points is formed by the points obtained by the student in the process of
mastering the material from the entire course. The general assessment for the semester consists
of points obtained for classroom work and for independent work (home translations, works). The
maximum student can score 60 points, the minimum - 36. The final grade is conducted in the form
of an exam: the maximum number of points on the exam - 40 points, the minimum number of
points (positive grade), which are added to the semester - 24 points. Points from 12 to 1 are
awarded for different types of work. Differentiation of the assessment consists in the percentage
of students fulfillment of the maximum requirements for the task (12 points - 100%, 10 points -
80%, etc.)
