Learning outcomes
PLO 2. Effectively work with information: select the necessary information from various sources, in particular from specialized literature and electronic databases, critically analyze and interpret it, organize, classify and systematize it. PLO 5. Cooperate with colleagues, representatives of other cultures and religions, adherents of different political views, etc. PLO 22.2. Have the skills to interpret and translate Polish and Lithuanian texts of various styles and genres. PLO 23.2. Apply knowledge from the field of Balto-Slavic linguistic and cultural continuum in the practice of translation. PLO 24.2. Apply methods and strategies established in translation studies for oral and written translation.
Form of study
Prerequisites and co-requisites
students must possess elementary skills of linguistic analysis of characteristic features of the Polish and Lithuanian languages, possess elementary skills of selection, analysis and interpretation of country history facts.
Course content
The goal of the discipline is to provide students with basic knowledge of the systemic phenomena of lexicology, phraseology of modern Polish and Lithuanian languages, language and speech culture, linguistic culture, which provides them with a basis for further mastery and professional linguistic mastery of the language, to develop fluency. The task is the formation of linguistic and country studies competence in students to ensure effective intercultural communication, familiarization of students with the system of worldview values of native speakers. This educational discipline contributes to the creation of an organic system of communicative skills and abilities, which ensures the situational adequacy of speech behavior. Tasks (learning objectives) - get acquainted with the geography, history and culture of Poland and Lithuania; - highlight the main terms and names of the realities of the historical, political and cultural life of Poland and Lithuania; - to form research skills, namely: search, selection, systematization and analysis of information, work with primary sources, design and public presentation of projects; - analyze linguistic and regional studies texts, both in linguistic and cultural aspects; - to develop and expand the worldview of the acquirers in the cultural aspect due to the creation of a sufficient level of linguistic and cultural competence through actualization, selection, semanticization and systematization of language units-realities; - to form and maintain interest in Poland and Lithuania, as well as in their socio-political life, material life, history and culture; - to educate and develop a sense of teamwork in the awardees, as well as independently through work on projects in pairs, groups and individually

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is delivered with the help of such activities as oral reports and written tests. The teaching methods are lectures, seminars, creative and research projects, students’ individual work.
Assessment methods and criteria
Students’ performance during the term is the sum of the points accumulated for their work in classroom (oral reports, tests) and individual work. The minimum score for the term is 60 points, while the maximum score equals 100.
