Learning outcomes
PLO 7. Understand the factors of ethno-cultural dynamics, principles of periodization of ethno-cultural processes, their specific features and characteristics. PLO 13. Analyze and interpret works of Ukrainian and foreign fiction and oral folklore, determine their specificity and place in the literary process. PLO 16. To know and understand the basic concepts, theories and concepts of folklore studies, linguistics and literary studies, to be able to apply them in professional activities.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Prior to studying this discipline, students must have mastered the disciplines CC. 13. Ukrainian folklore, CC.14. Mythology, CC. 15. World epic. Must know the genre of folklore, basic folklore works, ritual practices, methods of analyzing folklore material. Be able to summarize and summarize a large amount of theoretical information, identify genres of folklore, work with various sources of scientific information, process it, make generalizations and conclusions. Possess basic skills in analyzing theoretical works on folklore studies, folklore texts; searching and processing folklore information.
Course content
The purpose The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the most significant theoretical works of folklore science (fundamental works, schools, theories, genre classifications, etc.), to teach students comparative analysis, to form an idea of the nature of folklore research, to teach them to apply methods for solving categorical problems in folklore studies. Annotation. The discipline "Theory of Folklore" is one of the key components of the training of specialists in the educational program "Folklore Studies, Ukrainian Language and Literature and Foreign Language" and is included in the compulsory disciplines. This course aims to form students' understanding of the nature of folklore science, the ways in which folklore theories and schools emerged, and to show the evolution of ideas about folklore texts and the context of folklore phenomena. This will help to identify multi-temporal and multi-vector approaches to the study of folklore in order to apply their own original approach to solving significant issues for folklore studies.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course has 2 content parts.Classes are held in the form of lectures and seminars. The course ends with an exam. The first part is an introduction to the main directions of modern folklore studies, major folklore works, terms and concepts; familiarization with folklore methods and rules of their application for the interpretation of folklore phenomena; the main stages of formation of folklore studies as a scientific discipline. The second is the analysis of significant folklore works; the development of folklore ideas in synchrony and diachrony, modern trends and approaches in folklore studies.
Assessment methods and criteria
During the semester, after lectures on the relevant topics, seminars are held, where the assessment is carried out. The course ends with an exam. Students who score a total of less than the critical-calculated minimum of 36 points are not allowed to take the exam. The semester final grade is formed by the points obtained by the student in the process of performing the types and forms of training described in the work program and obtained at the exam. The maximum distribution is based on the following algorithm: 60 points (60%) - semester control and 40 points (40%) - exam.
