Learning outcomes
- Collect, process and analyze geological information in solving fundamental and applied problems. - Be able to conduct field and laboratory geological research. - To determine the main geological characteristics, processes, history and composition of the Earth as a planetary system and its geospheres. - Analyze the composition and internal structure of the Earth and its bowels at different spatial and temporal scales. - Know and apply geological theories and paradigms, concepts of development of the Earth and its geospheres.
Form of study
Distance form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful mastering of courses on the basics of petrophysics, basics of geophysics, mathematics courses with the basics of differential and integral calculus. 2. Have basic skills in working with a personal computer.
Course content
The course provides students with the concept of the main types of models of the geological environment, their hierarchical nature, allows you to master the basic methods of averaging and stochastic equations. During the course the application of modern modeling algorithms in various applied problems of geophysics is considered. Students learn critical thinking in building modeling algorithms, understanding the possibilities and limitations of modeling in solving direct and inverse problems with numerical methods.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
lectures, practical classes, independent work, consultations
Assessment methods and criteria
The control is carried out according to the modular rating system and includes: 6 practical works (where students must demonstrate acquired practical skills and solve problems using the methods and tools outlined by the teacher), 6 independent works (where students must demonstrate analysis and interpretation of practical results); formulate conclusions, draw up a written report) and conduct 2 written modular tests. The final assessment is conducted in the form of a written test.
