Learning outcomes
P1. Know and understand scientific concepts and modern theories of chemistry, as well as the fundamentals of related sciences.
P2. Deeply understand basic facts, concepts, principles and theories related to subject area of the master's program, use them to solve complex problems and tasks as well as conduct research in the relevant field of chemistry.
P9. Collect, evaluate and analyze data needed to solve complex chemistry tasks using appropriate data analysis methods and tools.
P10. Plan, organize and conduct experimental research in chemistry using modern equipment, competently process its results and draw sound conclusions.
P14. Interpret experimentally obtained data and correlate them with relevant theories in chemistry.
P15. Possession of the general methodology of scientific research.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Have knowledge of university courses in organic chemistry (chemical properties of functional groups), mathematics (differentiation, integration, functions and their graphs), statistical methods in chemistry (determination of averages and errors, MNC), physical chemistry and physical research methods in chemistry at the bachelor's level.
Course content
Features of structure and physicochemical properties of carbonaceous dispersed bodies are considered; basic laws of formation of carbon sorbents; basic methods of research of structural and chemical properties of these materials; modern approaches aimed at chemical modification of these materials in order to obtain carriers and sorbents with specified properties and catalytically active systems. Laboratory works are devoted to the study of physicochemical properties of the surface layer of modified carbon materials.

Assessment methods and criteria
Semester control includes homework, tests and laboratory works. The evaluation is based on a 100-point scale. The maximum / minimum number of points that can be obtained by a student during the semester assessment is 60 points / 36 points. The final assessment is conducted in the form of an exam. The maximum / minimum number of points that can be obtained by a student in the exam is 40 points / 24 points.
