P01. Understand key chemical concepts, basic facts, concepts, principles and theories related to the natural, life and earth sciences, as well as chemical technologies at a level sufficient for their professional application and to enable further in-depth understanding of specialized areas of chemistry. P03. Describe chemical data in symbolic form.
P04. Understand the basic patterns and types of chemical reactions and their characteristics. P06. Understand the periodic law and the periodic table of elements, describe, explain and predict the properties of chemical elements and compounds based on them. P08. Know the principles and procedures of physical, chemical, physico-chemical research methods, typical equipment and devices. P09. Plan and perform a chemical experiment, apply suitable methods and techniques for preparing solutions and reagents. P20. Interpret experimentally obtained data and correlate them with relevant theories in chemistry.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
This course is based on the knowledge of the school chemistry course (classes of inorganic compounds, the theory of electrolytic dissociation, the structure of the atom), physics (gas laws, the structure of the atom, electricity, magnetism) and mathematics (equations and systems of equations, operations with powers and roots, average values, natural and decimal logarithms, proportionality, functions and their graphs). The material of the discipline is the basis for studying inorganic, analytical, organic, physical, colloidal chemistry, as well as a number of disciplines according to the profile of the future specialty.
Course content
The course program consists of several sections. The introductory chapter is devoted to consideration of general chemistry as one of the main components of chemical science. After a short historical excursion, the current state of chemistry, its problems and significance for the development of production are discussed. The concept of a systematic approach to research and an assessment of the philosophical significance of basic chemical concepts is given.
In subsequent sections, students are informed about the structure of matter (atoms, molecules), and also consider the basic concepts of the theory of chemical bonding and its most important characteristics, thermodynamics, theory of solutions, kinetics, classification of inorganic substances and reactions, chemical equilibria, etc. Mastering these concepts is necessary for the subsequent study of actual material of inorganic, analytical and organic chemistry on a modern theoretical basis. Special attention is paid to the Periodic Law - the basis of the study of modern inorganic chemistry.

Assessment methods and criteria
Semester control includes homework, tests and laboratory works. The evaluation is based on a 100-point scale. The maximum / minimum number of points that can be obtained by a student during the semester assessment is 60 points / 36 points. The final assessment is conducted in the form of an exam. The maximum / minimum number of points that can be obtained by a student in the exam is 40 points / 24 points.
