Learning outcomes
PLO 3. To implement modern methods and techniques, namely informational, in order to perform a successful and effective professional activity and guarantee the quality of research in an applied linguistics field. PLO 7. To analyze, compare and classify various schools and approaches of Linguistic Studies. PLO 9. To characterize theoretical (concepts, categories, principles, basic concepts, etc.) principles and practical aspects of modern linguistics. PLO 11. To perform a scholarly analysis of linguistic, speech, and literary material, interpret and structure it considering expedient methodological principles, and formulate summarizations based on the individually processed data. PLO 15. To choose the optimal research approaches and methods of analysis for the specific linguistic and literary material. PLO 17. To plan, organize, perform, and present the research and or innovative developments in an applied linguistics field.

Course content
The comprehensive academic discipline consists of two parts: Part 1: Main areas of applied linguistics (2 credits): the concept of applied linguistics in the domestic and foreign tradition is considered, with special attention paid to those branches of AL that are represented in the selective block of the master's plan of the specialty: forensic linguistics expertise and computer linguistics; Part 2. The main trends in fundamental linguistics (2 credits): The problems of modern anthropological linguistics are considered, within which two main trends are distinguished: cognitive-cultural and communicative-discursive. The course presents the meta-language, methods, and techniques of research in a new theoretical and methodological plane. Attention is paid to the modus of structural and semantic research concerning "internal linguistics" of the twentieth century, which is continuing to develop in parallel with the "external linguistic" ones.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
As a research component of the Applied Linguistics (Translation, Editing, and Expert Linguistic Analysis) study program, the course involves methods and technologies of seminars that contribute to the formation and improvement of research skills of master's students and their participation in scientific events.
Assessment methods and criteria
The semester number of points for Part 1: Basic Directions of Applied Linguistics is formed by the points obtained in the process of learning the material according to the assessment forms. The total grade for the semester consists of points received for classroom work and for independent learning (preparation of a report and presentation). All types of work throughout the semester have in total: - with a maximum of 60 points, - with a minimum of 36 points. In case of missing a seminar class, the student must complete the assignment. The points received in the discipline are recalculated in percentage terms (50% of the points received: from the maximum number of 60 points - 30 points; from the minimum number of 36 points - 18 points) and are summed up when forming the total score for the semester based on the learning outcomes in both parts of the complex discipline.
