Prerequisites and co-requisites
Before commencing this course, master’s students are expected to have knowledge of the fundamental concepts in literary studies, the connections between literary studies and other humanities disciplines, and the main historical stages in the development of national and world literature.
Students should be able to apply the conceptual framework of literary theory when analysing texts; undertake independent research tasks; and use interactive and multimedia tools effectively.
They should also possess basic skills in information research and management; adopt a critical approach to the phenomena under study; work competently with literary texts; produce complex oral and written communications; and collaborate effectively in investigative or problem-solving learning activities.
Course content
The aim of this course is to provide master’s students with knowledge of the fundamental principles and methods of literary analysis of literary texts, along with the skills necessary for professional practice as teachers of Ukrainian literature. The course offers a comprehensive understanding of the literary text as a prerequisite for the functioning of a literary work within national and global socio-cultural contexts, and introduces the key genre and stylistic dimensions of literary analysis.
Upon completion of the course, students should know: the main literary and aesthetic categories used for comprehensive analysis of literary texts; scholarly approaches to interpreting literary phenomena, including contested issues in literary studies that involve differing academic perspectives; the socio-cultural and ideological characteristics of the principal periods in the development of national and world literature; authorial strategies for constructing the literary world, as represented in Ukrainian and global literary practice; the main features of contemporary literary processes. Be able to: apply literary research methodologies in practice; conduct a comprehensive literary analysis of a text, taking into account its thematic, structural, and stylistic features; analyse a literary text in the historical context of its creation, as well as in light of contemporary interpretations and scholarly theories; use literary text analysis methods in the teaching of literature as a school subject.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The programme includes lectures and practical classes, as well as independent study. The main teaching methods are lectures, heuristic discussions, and project-based approaches. Types of work prescribed by the programme include oral responses during heuristic discussions, creative assignments, and creative projects (e.g., essays or reviews).
Assessment methods and criteria
The overall student grade is determined on a 100-point scale and takes into account learning outcomes from all types of assessment: oral responses in heuristic discussions (maximum 60 points, minimum 40 points); creative project (20/10 points); and creative assignment (essay or review) (20/10 points). Completion of the course is assessed by a pass/fail test (100/60 points).
