Learning outcomes
PLO8. Know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of speech, the history of the Vietnamese language and literature, and be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO9. Characterize dialectal and social varieties of the Vietnamese language, describe the sociolinguistic situation. PLO12. Analyze language units, determine their interaction and characterize the linguistic phenomena and processes that determine them. PLO16. Know and understand the basic concepts, theories and concepts of the chosen philological specialization, be able to apply them in professional activities.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful completion of the courses: “Fundamentals of Linguistics: Synchrony”, “Introduction to Vietnamese Philology”, “Word Formation and Lexicology of the Vietnamese Language”, “Theoretical Grammar of the Vietnamese Language”, “Fundamentals of Vietnamese Phonetics” from the educational program for bachelors; Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of general linguistics, typological features of the Vietnamese language, features of word formation and grammar of the Vietnamese language; Mastery of the basics of morphemic, word-formational, grammatical analysis of the Vietnamese language; Ability to distinguish dialect pronunciation by ear.
Course content
The academic discipline "History of the Vietnamese language and dialectology" is the fourth part of the complex discipline "Theory and History of the Vietnamese language". The course provides basic information about the development of the Vietnamese language, analyzes the historical periods of its functioning. Information is also provided about the dialects of the Vietnamese language, their phonetic, lexical and grammatical features, as well as the differences between the functioning of the literary language and dialect varieties.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course provides for the following forms of learning organization: lectures and seminars conducted using interactive teaching methods, and independent work. The main types of work and, accordingly, the objects of semester control are: a response to a seminar, analytical reports, creative projects (presentations), a module control work with open answers and test tasks. Assessment methods and criteria
Knowledge control is carried out according to the ECTS system, which provides for a two-level assessment of the material learned, including theoretical training, which accounts for 40% of the total grade, and practical training, which accounts for 60% of the total grade. The number of semester points is formed by the points received by the student for classroom work and for independent work; in total: in the maximum dimension 60 points, in the minimum dimension 36 points. Final assessment: exam. The exam is conducted in the form of written work with open answers to two practical tasks (each of which is evaluated with a maximum of 15 points) and an oral response to a conversational topic (maximum 10 points).
