Learning outcomes
PLO 7. To analyze, compare and classify different trends and schools in Linguistics.
PLO 9. To characterize theoretical principles (concepts, categories, principles, basic concepts, etc.) and applied aspects of the chosen linguistic specialization.
PLO 16. To use specialized conceptual knowledge in a chosen linguistic field to solve complex tasks and issues, which require updates and integration of knowledge, often under conditions of incomplete or lacking information and contradictory requirements.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Proficiency in the German language, written mediation in the first foreign language, and consecutive oral mediation at the C2 level (proficient user) according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Course content
The aim of the discipline is to develop students' knowledge of the variability of the German language in comparison to the Ukrainian language, their ability to navigate various dialectal and sociolectal variations of the German language, mastery of the principles and methods of sociolinguistic language research, and the ability to work with theoretical and lexicographic sources. The course material outlines the main principles of professional communication in a cross-cultural environment against the backdrop of contemporary processes of globalization, linguistic and cultural interaction. It also establishes the terminological framework in the field of sociolinguistics, emphasizing the importance of considering psycholinguistic and sociolinguistic factors in the process of professional communication. The course highlights the peculiarities of language policies in Germany and Ukraine, the role of the translator as a mediator and a communicative individual capable of conducting successful negotiations and engaging in professional communication according to the principles of cooperative communication.

The final assessment (credit) is based on the student's performance throughout the entire semester and does not require additional evaluation measures. The following forms of work are considered:
Oral responses, statements on a topic, contributions during quick quizzes/discussions, LO 1.1.-1.4., 2.1.-2.4. (0.5/2 points)
Presentations, essays, reports, creative tasks, LO 1.1.-1.4., 2.1.-2.4. (5/10 points)
Summarizing, summarizing lectures or texts, LO 1.1.-1.4. (0.5/2 points)
Module work (test), LO 1.1.-1.4., 2.1-2.4. (2/10 points)
Final test for the course, LO 1.1.-1.4., 2.1-2.4. (6/20 points)
Students who score the minimum passing number of points - 60, receive a "pass" grade. Students who do not reach the minimum passing number of points - 60, receive a "fail" grade. The maximum score for the course is 100 points.
