Prerequisites and co-requisites
Students should know the theoretical foundations of the basic courses of stylistics, text linguistics, discourse analysis, literary studies; be able to compare various linguistic elements, make generalizations; have practical skills of analysis of texts in English.
Course content
The purpose of the course is to familiarize Master’s students with modern approaches to the theory of literary genres, correlations between notions of ‘genre’, ‘register’ and ‘style, as well as with narratology, objects of its study and the basic concepts; to develop the students’ skills of genre and narratological analysis.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Forms of studies organisation: oral answer, project work, test. Teaching methods: lecture, practical class, independent work.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final mark for the course is formed as the sum of points of the current and final control. Forms of the current control include answers in practical classes (max 21/min 9), project works (max 20/min14), tests (max 19/min 13), in total max 60/min 36 (it is not allowed to take an exam with fewer than 36 points).
The form of the final control is the exam (max 40/min 24). To get a positive mark for the course an exam mark should be min 24.
