Prerequisites and co-requisites
The student should know: the theoretical foundations of general linguistics, the main characteristics of the lexical systems of the compared languages (Ukrainian and English); be able to: collect and interpret information about language phenomena and phenomena, distinguish common and different in the lexical systems of two languages, apply basic concepts in the analysis of language phenomena and processes, plan and evaluate one's own work; use interactive and multimedia tools; to possess: elementary skills of scientific research and information management, methodology of comparative language studies, critical attitude to the analyzed phenomena, use of foreign language professional informative sources, work with authentic texts; interaction and cooperation in learning in exploratory situations.
Course content
In the process of studying the discipline, students develop a holistic idea of the lexicology and grammar of the compared languages; they get acquainted with the main categories, form knowledge about the specific properties of the lexical and grammatical systems of the English language in comparison with Ukrainian, explore ways of enriching the vocabulary of the English language, problems of word formation, peculiarities of functional differentiation of the vocabulary; get acquainted with the main provisions of comparative semasiology, phraseology and etymology, study the morphological and syntactic systems of comparative languages, learn to identify common and distinctive features in them, and also form knowledge about the peculiarities of the use of language units that express similar relationships. Training is conducted in the form of lectures and practical classes, as well as independent work of students. The discipline ends with an exam at the end of the semester.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Educational activities during the semester: answers and additions in practical classes; blitz polls during lectures; preparation and defense of the presentation; control works.
Assessment methods and criteria
The semester number of points is formed by the points obtained by the student in the process of successive learning of material from the course topics, active participation in discussions at lectures and practical classes, performance of tasks, control works and projects. A student can earn a maximum of 30 points for work during the semester. The obtained points will be added to the semester points of Part 3 of the Integrated discipline "Translation Studies".
