Learning outcomes
PLO 11. To know the principles, technologies and methods of creating oral and written texts of various genres and styles in the national and foreign (Arabic and French) languages. PLO 12. To analyze Arabic linguistic units, determine their interaction and characterize linguistic phenomena and processes that cause them. PLO 14. To use Arabic and French in oral and written form, in various genre-stylistic varieties and registers of communication (official, unofficial, neutral) to solve communicative tasks in everyday, social, educational, professional, scientific spheres of life. PLO 20. To demonstrate basic knowledge of translation theory, basic theoretical and practical problems of translation studies in the aspect of a specific pair of languages (Arabic and Ukrainian).

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful mastery of the discipline "The Arabic language: basic level"; students must have a vocabulary and knowledge of Arabic grammar at the basic level; to know the main theoretical principles, specifics and problems of translation studies as a science.
Course content
The goal of the discipline is to acquaint students with the specifics of translating Arabic-language texts on everyday, social, geographical, and country studies topics, as well as oral informational messages; to develop skills to select the correct contextual counterparts in the translation language and the original language, to apply basic translation techniques. The discipline is part of the complex discipline "Fundamentals of Arabic translation theory and practice" and has a practical orientation.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The discipline involves only practical classes designed for active work of students in the classroom and aimed at the formation and development of skills in various types of translation. Completion of homework, translation exercises, and handwriting drills after patterns is mandatory. Control of students' assimilation of lexical and grammatical material is carried out by means of their oral questioning and organization of written tasks, tests, lexical dictations, modular test papers.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semestral assessment is based on the oral testing, written assignments, translation exercises – 36/60 points, modular test papers – 12/20 points, final test paper – 12/20 points. The credit is given based on the results of the student’s work throughout the entire semester and does not include additional assessment measures. Students who scored 60 points, the required minimum, receive “passed”. Students who failed to score 60 points, the required minimum, receive “failed”. Those students who scored totally less than 60 points during the semester period should complete a test paper in the items which he/she failed to pass. Final score 60-100 – passed; 0-59 – failed.
