Successful completion of the course of practical phonetics of the Ukrainian language, taught in the first year of study in the educational program "Ukrainian Language and Translation (for Foreigners)" in the bachelor's degree.

Modern Ukrainian Language. Phonetics" is a basic professional discipline for foreign students majoring in Ukrainian Language and Translation (for Foreigners); the course is 120 hours (30 hours of lectures, 30 hours of practical classes and 60 hours of independent work). The subject of the course is the phonetic, phonological, accentual and intonational systems of the modern Ukrainian literary language. The aim of the discipline is to master the sound system of the modern Ukrainian language (sounds, sound types, phonemes, accents, intonation structures, syllable types), automate speech skills based on an awareness of the peculiarities of the articulation base, systemic phonetic phenomena of the Ukrainian language and the regularities of sound processes and intonation contours in speech.

Forms of study: lectures, practical classes, independent work. Special methods: analysis of phonetic phenomena, including transcription, comparative analysis, phonetic-speech, phonetic-communication exercises.
