PLO 4. To understand fundamental principles of human existence and nature in the contemporary scientific picture of the world, as well as fundamental principles of society with the aim of realizing man’s rights and duties as a member of society, awareness of the rule of law, human rights and freedoms and rights and freedoms of a citizen of Ukraine.

PLO 20. To have a basic knowledge of the history of Ukraine and the history of the Ukrainian language with the aim to be aware of national identity, the value of the civil (free and democratic) society, and the necessity of its sustainable development.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Know:
• the structure of the modern Ukrainian language;
• units of phonetic, lexical, morphological, and syntactic levels of the Ukrainian language;
• functions of units of structural levels of the Ukrainian language.
Be able:
• to express their own opinions based on their school knowledge of the Ukrainian language;
• to carry out phonetic, morpheme, morphological, and syntactic analysis of units of the Ukrainian language;
Have elementary skills in:
• working with teaching and methodical manuals;
• searching for information in scientific sources recommended for processing;
• analysis and comparison of language phenomena;
• practical application of acquired knowledge (for participation in discussions, writing modular test papers, etc.).
Course content
The educational discipline consists of seven topics that highlight the issue of the origin of the Ukrainian language, sources of Ukrainian ethnicity, the concept of a national language, the origin of the names Rus, Little Rus, Ukraine, the history of the name Ukrainian language; the history of the most important phonetic, grammatical, and lexical features of the Ukrainian language, the specifics of the formation of the conceptual and linguistic pictures of the world of our ancestors, as well as the question of the origin of Slavic writing, the main stages of the development of the old literary and written language of Ukrainians in the XIII-XVIII centuries, the relationship between the old Ukrainian literary language and the new Ukrainian literary language, ways and stages of the development of the Ukrainian literary language in the XIX-XXI centuries.

Lectures, seminar classes, and independent work.
Types of work:
Answer at a practical lesson, addition, creative task, and participation in the discussion.
Writing an essay with a creative task.
Final control test.
Assessment methods and criteria
The maximum number of points during the semester is 100 points,
• answer in practical classes, additions, creative tasks, participation in discussion: LO1.1–3.1 – max. 10 points in each of 6 classes (assessed depending on the completeness of disclosure);
writing an essay with a creative task: LO 1.1–1.4, 2.1–2.3, 3.1 – max. 16 points
• modular control test - max. 24 points.
Final assessment: credit. The credit is given based on the results of the student's work during the entire semester and does not include additional assessment measures.
