Learning outcomes
Knowledge to understand the basics of mathematics at a level sufficient to achieve other learning outcomes provided by this guideline and educational program. Knowledge to understand the relationship between structure and properties of substances. Skill to perform experimental work to test hypotheses and investigation of chemical phenomena and regularities. Ability to use acquired knowledge and skills for calculation, displaying, and modeling of chemical systems and processes, as well as the processing of experimental data. Skill to perform computer calculations related to chemical problems by using standard and special software, abilities to analyse and display results. Skill to interpret the experimental data and to correlate this data with corresponding theories in chemistry. Skill to present competently research results using state and foreign languages, taking into account the purpose of communication.

"Bioinorganic Chemistry" is an integral part of the cycle of professional training of specialists of the educational-qualification level "Bachelor", needs the successful mastery of "Inorganic Chemistry", "Chemistry of Coordination Compounds", and selected sections of physical and organic chemistry.
Course content
An introductory course that provides a basic level to become well grounded in the field of Bioinorganic Chemistry and to critically investigate scientific publications in this field of science. This course concentrates, first of all, on the following topics - study of coordinate-chemical properties of vital metals and their forms of location and behavior in biological systems, examination of the types of interactions of transition metal ions with major ligand systems in living organisms (proteins and nucleic acids and their constituents), certain transport processes (transfer and storage of oxygen and iron), the concept of the role of metal ions in catalytic processes, etc.

Assessment methods and criteria
Semester control includes homework and tests. The evaluation is based on a 100-point scale. The maximum / minimum number of points that can be obtained by a student during the semester assessment is 60 points / 36 points. The final assessment is conducted in the form of an exam. The maximum / minimum number of points that can be obtained by a student in the exam is 40 points / 24 points.
