Learning outcomes
Get the knowledge of the types of interatomic bonds and elements of the theory of elasticity, types of defects in crystals. Get the knowledge of plastic deformation and destruction of crystalline materials.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Know the types of interatomic bonds, the structure of substances in the condensed state, the basics of thermodynamics (molecular physics), the basic laws studied in the course of mechanics (the concept of force, elastic forces, Hooke's law, types of deformations). Be able to analyze the distribution of forces arising from the load of the body system; identify the basic laws that determine the strength of different materials. Have an idea of the technique of laboratory measurements of mechanical properties of materials
Course content
Know the types of interatomic bonds, the structure of substances in the condensed state, the basics of thermodynamics (molecular physics), the basic laws studied in the course of mechanics (the concept of force, elastic forces, Hooke's law, types of deformations). Be able to analyze the distribution of forces arising from the load of the body system; identify the basic laws that determine the strength of different materials. Have an idea of the technique of laboratory measurements of mechanical properties of materials.

Lectures - 30 hours. Self-study - 60 hours.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment: (max / min) 1. Modular test 1 on topics 1-9: PH 1.1 - 30 points / 18 points. 2. Modular test 2 on topics 10-14: PH 1.1 - 30 points / 18 points. A student is not allowed to take the exam if he / she scored less than 36 points during the semester. The grade for the exam cannot be less than 24 points for it to be an overall positive grade for the course.
