            Course content

The educational discipline consists of two content modules.
Content module 1 introduces students to the definitions of the concepts "term", "term element", "nomenclature", "terminology", "international scientific terminology", "onym", "uninominal term", "polynomial term", etc. with the history of the formation of natural science terminology, with its Greek-Latin basis. This part of the course examines the main types of structure of natural science terms and the most frequently used term elements of physical and geographical terms of Greek-Latin origin: initial and final root term elements, prefixes and suffixes.
Content Module 2 focuses on chemical and biological terminologies. Basic word-formation models of Latin names of chemical salts, acids, oxides, hydroxides, peroxides, chemical elements, etc. are taught. The rules of formation of Latin uni- and polynominal biological terms, the basic principles of formation of names of species, genera, families, orders (rows), classes, departments (types) of plants and animals are considered. Questions about Ukrainian equivalents of Latin and Greek term elements, problems of adaptation of Greek-Latin term elements in the Ukrainian morphological system, reproduction and possibilities of creating new natural science terms using the Greek-Latin term base are highlighted.
