Learning outcomes
PLO 7. Understand the major issues of philology and approaches to solving those using relevant methods and innovative approaches.
PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and techniques of oral and written texts of different genres and styles creation in Ukrainian, Swedish English and third Germanic language.
PLO 15. Perform linguistic, literary and translation analysis of texts of different styles and genres.
PLO 16. Know and understand the basic theories and concepts of the chosen philological specialization, be able to apply them in professional activities.
PLO 20.2. Translate written and oral texts of various styles and genres from Swedish, English and the third Germanic language.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The course "Theory of Translation" in the fifth semester requires knowledge of the Swedish language at a level not lower than B1 in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and is also based on the theoretical knowledge and practical skills in translation acquired by students during the study of the disciplines "Introduction to Translation Studies ” and “Swedish translation practice” in the 3rd and 4th semesters.
Course content
The course "Theory of translation" involves lectures and practical classes. At lectures, students get acquainted with the main problems of modern translation studies, directions of modern translation studies, issues of translation ethics, automated and machine translation, approaches to the classification of professional competences of translators. In the practical classes, deepening and practical application of the acquired knowledge takes place.

Lectures, practical classes, independent work.
Assessment methods and criteria
Current assessment: oral survey, test, scientific report, final test. The final assessment is an exam. Evaluation criteria for each form of control are given in the course program.
