Learning outcomes
PLO 8. Know and understand the system of language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of English and the two studied Western European languages, and literature, be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities.
PLO 10. Know the rules of standard language and be able to apply them in practice.
PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and techniques of oral and written texts of different genres and styles creation in Ukrainian, English and two other Western European languages.
PLO 12. Analyze language units, determine their interaction, and characterize linguistic phenomena and the underlying processes.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Prerequisites for the 1st term of the multidiscipline "Second language" do not require prior knowledge of the German language, however, students are expected to know basic linguistic concepts and terms.
Course content
The aim of the discipline is the comprehensive study of the German language in phonetic, grammatical, lexical aspects, as well as the formation of oral and written communication skills and abilities in order to ensure fluent, standard use of the German language for the organization of successful communication in the foreign language and students’ future professional activities. The discipline increases knowledge about German language and culture, relevant speech behavior according to the communicative situation. The content of the syllabus is aimed at the formation and development of phonetic and spelling skills; skills and abilities to organize oral and written German speech with relevant vocabulary and grammar, taking into account the communicative situation; skills and abilities of listening, translation, content transfer and discussion of audio texts (short messages, dialogues, announcements, telephone conversations, weather forecasts, etc.); the ability to conduct a conversation, dialogue in a given situation; skills in translation of simple coherent texts and separate sentences.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities during the term:
• oral and written tasks, which are performed at practical classes and in the process of individual work;
• written tests;
• module tests;
• creative tasks;
• answers at practical classes.
Assessment methods and criteria

Term assessment: the maximum number of points during the term is 60 points:
• answers at the practical class: LO 1.1, LO 1.4, LO 2.1, LO 2.2, LO 2.4, LO 3.1, LO 4.1; LO 2.2, LO 2.3, LO 2.4, LO 3.1, LO 4.1, LO 4.2 – 10 points;
• written tests: LO 1.3, LO 1.2– 10 points;
• module tests: LO 1.1 – 3.1 – 30 points;
• creative tasks: LO 2.1, 2.2 – 10 points;
Final assessment in the form of an exam:
• the written part of the exam – 15 points,
• the oral part of the exam – 25 points
The term final grade is formed by the points received by the student during the term and the points received at the exam – a minimum of 60 points, a maximum of 100 points, of which for the semester, the maximum is 60 points, the minimum is 36; for the exam - a maximum of 40 points; minimum - 24.
