Learning outcomes
PLO 1. Communicate freely on professional issues with experts and non- experts in Ukrainian, English and in two Western European languages, in oral and in written form, use these languages to organize effective cross-cultural communication. PLO 6. Use information and communication technologies to solve complex specialized tasks and issues of professional activity. PLO 16. Know and understand the basic notions, theories and concepts of the chosen philological specialization, be able to apply them in professional activity. PLO 17. Collect, analyze, systematize and interpret language and speech facts and use them to solve complex problems and problems in specialized fields of professional activity and / or training.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
To succeed, the course requires knowledge of English at the level not lower than B1 of CEFR. In addition, students are supposed: 1. To know the organization of language and basic linguistic concepts and terms. 2. To be able to use appropriately basic terminology and a conceptual apparatus of linguistics. 3. To possess the elementary skills of searching for, obtaining and exchanging information.
Course content
The discipline aims to familiarize students with communication theory as an interdisciplinary field of knowledge and develop their communicative competence, which is a necessary condition for effective information exchange and efficient human interaction. The discipline focuses on studying human communication activities in real-life situations. Special attention is paid to the use of verbal codes in communication, communicators’ speech behaviors, means of speech influence, culture and effectiveness of speech interactions, and ethnic specifics of communication. The course emphasizes the ties between theory and practice of communication.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The modes of the course delivery encompass lectures, practical classes and self-study, incl. online-courses at FutureLearn, a multimodel project and reflexive reports. The teaching methods include explanations, illustrations, reproduction, heuristics and research. To engage students’ in the educational process and foster their interaction, active and interactive methods are used, such as task-based, problem-based and action-based learning.
Assessment methods and criteria
The form of summative assessment is a pass/fail grade. The pass grade is given if students earn 60–100 points for their work throughout the semester, which does not presuppose any additional assessment. The students who earn less than 60 points are required to write a summative test. Formative assessment takes place on a day-to-day basis and incorporates students’ results for all types of learning activities, incl. self-study. The indispensable condition for a pass grade is completing a multimodel project and writing tests on lectures.
