Learning outcomes
PLO 8. Know and understand the system of language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of English and the two studied Western European languages, and literature, be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 10. Know the rules of standard language and be able to apply them in practice. PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and techniques of oral and written texts of different genres and styles creation in Ukrainian, English and two other Western European languages. PLO 12. Analyze language units, determine their interaction, and characterize linguistic phenomena and the underlying processes. PLO 14. Use English and two other Western European languages in oral and written form, in different genre-style varieties and registers of communication (formal, informal, neutral), for solving communicative tasks in everyday, public, educational, professional and academic spheres of life.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. A “pass” in Practical course of English, parts 1-6. 2. Learning of the lexical and grammatical material to understand and produce English texts of different genres; learning of punctuation rules. 3. Ability to use lexical and grammatical structures in written tasks. 4.Ability to apply stylistic analysis to grammatical structures, syntactical and lexical units.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to teach students the main principles of the main genres in English language, to deepen their skills of English writing and text editing. The main aim of the discipline is to study the use of English and two other Western European languages in oral and written forms, in different genre-style varieties and registers of communication, for solving communicative tasks in different spheres of life. The study of the discipline deepens, generalizes and systemizes students’ knowledge of language and prepares students to know how to create oral and written texts of different genres and styles, using Ukrainian, English and two other Western European languages. The discipline ends with an exam at the end of the term.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is delivered with the help of such activities as oral reports, written tasks and tests. The teaching methods are practical classes, students’ projects, students’ individual work.
Assessment methods and criteria
The course ends with an exam. Students’ performance during the term is the sum of the points accumulated for their work in the classroom (oral reports, written tasks, tests) and individual work (20 points). Students do two module tests, the maximum score for each test is 20 points. Writing assessment scale is divided into four aspects: content (5 points), communicative achievement (5 points), organisation (5 points), language (5 points). The minimum score for the term is 36 points, the maximum score equals 60. The minimum score for the exam is 24 and the maximum score is 40. Exam tasks include a test (20 points) and a creative written task (20 points).
