Prerequisites and co-requisites
Prerequisites and performance requirements Trainees are required to know objectives, approaches, methods, techniques, and means as well as organizational formats of teaching Ukrainian language and literature and English; methods and techniques of diagnosing students’ progress in learning the Ukrainian language and literature; be able to analyze and plan teaching the Ukrainian language and literature and English language in consistence with the objectives and conditions of the instruction; use up-to-date methods of teaching Ukrainian language and literature and English language as well as of diagnosing learners’ knowledge and skills; select language material and teaching techniques; develop lesson plans, conduct and analyze classes. Interdisciplinary links: methods of teaching the Ukrainian language and literature, pedagogy, psychology, the Ukrainian language, history of the Ukrainian language, history of Ukrainian literature, oral folk arts.
Course content
Course Description: Teaching internship in secondary school aims to build trainees’ professional skills while working as a teacher of Ukrainian language and literature and English language. The internship provides an effective platform for the development of students’ professional identity and communication skills. This includes establishing an essential theoretical underpinning of teaching and learning and the development of key components of teacher professional competency. Also, the teacher training focuses on the development of classroom management skills and teaching techniques to meet the up-to-date demands of the classroom and to pilot innovative practices. The internship is a full-time training that lasts 8 weeks; it comprises 3 components: teaching Ukrainian language and literature, teaching English, and out-of-class activities. Teacher training platforms are basic secondary schools.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Classroom activities and teaching techniques The major activities that engage students and provide evidence for assessment are trial lessons in Ukrainian language and literature and English, trial out-of-class activities, demonstration classes, demonstration out-of-class activity, use of own innovative techniques, designing lesson plans, designing a plan for out-of-class activities, analysis of own teaching techniques, communication with participants in teaching/learning process, a report on the teaching internship. A student can earn max. 100 and min. 60 points. A detailed account of all criteria to assess teaching/learning activities in the course is presented in the course curriculum posted on the website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment A student’s final grade is based on a 100-point grading scheme. It is composed of the scores earned for each activity performed during the internship (max. 100 and min. 60 points): trial classes (40 points), demonstration classes (10 points), trial out-of-class activities (5 points), demonstration out-of-class activity (5 points), use of own innovative techniques (10 points), designing lesson plans (5 points), designing a plan for out-of-class activities (5 points), analysis of own teaching techniques (5 points), communication with participants in teaching/learning process (10 points), a report on the teaching internship (5 points). A detailed account of all criteria to assess the performance in the practicum is presented in the course curriculum posted on the website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
