Learning outcomes
PLO 8. To know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of speech, the history of the Persian language and literature, and to be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 9. To characterize the dialectal and social varieties of the Persian languages, describe the sociolinguistic situation. PLO 12. To analyze Persian linguistic units, determine their interaction and characterize linguistic phenomena and processes that cause them. PLO 15. To carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of texts of various styles and genres. PLO 16. To know and understand the basic concepts, theories and concepts of the chosen philological specialization, to be able to apply it.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful mastering of the disciplines "The Persian language: basic level"; "Introduction to Persian Philology"; knowledge of the theoretical foundations of linguistics from the courses "Basics of Linguistics: Synchrony", " Basics of Linguistics: Diachrony".
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to give students knowledge of the structure and composition of the lexical system of the Persian language, the specifics of its formation and functioning, and historical changes in the Persian vocabulary. The discipline involves familiarizing students with the peculiarities of word formation and terminology of the Persian language, the history of Persian lexicography. The course includes two parts. The first one is devoted to the etymological aspect of Persian vocabulary, the characteristics of specifically Persian and borrowed vocabulary, ways of replenishing the vocabulary of the language. In the second part, issues of terminology and phraseology of the Persian language, as well as problems of Persian lexicography, its history and types of dictionaries are highlighted. The discipline is a part of the complex discipline "Theory and History of the Persian Language" and has a theoretical orientation.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities comprise interactive lectures and seminar classes. Self-study of the students involves preparation for oral responses, participation in discussions, reports with the analyses of scientific literature, research presentation, and completion of term paper.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semestral assessment is based on the oral responses, written assignments, reports and presentations – 36/60 points, modular test papers – 12/20 points, term paper – 12/20 points. The credit is given based on the results of the student’s work throughout the entire semester and does not require additional assessment measures. Students who scored 60 points, the required minimum, receive “passed”. Students who failed to score 60 points, the required minimum, receive “failed”. Those students who scored totally less than 60 points during the semester period should complete a test paper in the items which he/she failed to pass. Final score 60-100 – passed; 0-59 – failed.
