            Know:
basic laws of crystallography, symmetry and morphology of crystals, 32 types of symmetry, 47 simple forms
the basic laws and regularities of crystal chemistry of minerals, the doctrine of isomorphism and crystal structures
modern concepts about the morphology and anatomy of minerals
the nature of the physical properties of minerals
the modern doctrine of the genesis of minerals.
Be able:
read crystal chemical structures of minerals
interpret the crystal structures of minerals
establish regular connections between the chemical composition, structure, morphology, anatomy and genesis of minerals
diagnose minerals by physical properties, perfect - 200 common minerals

            Course content

The course provides information on crystalline and amorphous substances, symmetry, morphology of crystals (simple forms, twins), crystallographic symbols, types of symmetry, space groups of symmetry, crystal chemistry of minerals (chemical composition and crystal structure of minerals, chemical bonding of atoms in minerals) , morphology and anatomy of minerals (Brave's law, Curie's principle, habitus and outlines of crystals, laws of crystal anatomy, morphology of mineral aggregates, nanomineralogy), the physical nature of the main properties of minerals, the genesis of minerals as the doctrine of the laws of formation, transformation and destruction of minerals.
The goal of the discipline is to acquaint students with the basic concepts and laws of crystallography, to teach them to think three-dimensionally when interpreting the morphology and anatomy of crystals; to teach students to know and be able to learn the natural history of the mineral kingdom.

            Assessment methods and criteria

            Semester assessment:
1) Control work from content module 1 (written work): max 20 points/ min 12 points
2) Assessment for the performance of laboratory work from content module 1: max 10 points/ min 6 points
3) Control work from content module 2 (written work): max 10 points/ min 6 points
4) Assessment for the performance of laboratory work from content module 2: max 10 points/ min 6 points
5) Report (presented in the form of an oral presentation and accompanying written theses/abstract) - max 10 points / min 6 points
A student is not admitted to the exam if he scored less than 20 points during the semester. 60% of laboratory work must be completed for admission to the exam. The exam grade cannot be less than 24 points to receive an overall positive grade for the course.
Final assessment in the form of an exam is mandatory.
