            Course content

            The discipline "Biochemistry" introduces students
with modern principles of synthesis, decomposition and interconversion of basic macromolecules in body tissues (proteins, lipids, carbohydrates and nucleic acids). Particular attention is paid to the unique characteristics of each class of the above substances, which make them the main elements in providing such vital functions as structuring all cell membranes, enzymatic catalysis and the transfer and realization of hereditary information. The concepts of energy value, signal functions of individual representatives of each of the classes of substances, their involvement in the functioning of regulatory systems of the cell are also provided. The discipline presents modern ideas about the peculiarities of metabolic transformations of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins in normal and in pathology, taking into account the molecular and biochemical mechanisms of regulation of metabolism and bioenergetic processes.
