Prerequisites and co-requisites
The educational discipline "Computer networks" is based on the cycle of professional and practical training disciplines, in particular, "Computer technologies", "Discrete mathematics", "Telecommunications networks", "Telecommunications software", which are taught in previous semesters. Prerequisites: 1. Know the basic principles of building telecommunication systems. 2. Know the main telecommunication and network technologies and their development trends. 3. Know the principles of ensuring information security 4. To be able to use modeling and design methods and tools
Course content
Protocols and tools for the operation of local networks. Transport protocols. Basics of network security. Wired network troubleshooting tools. Routers and switches. Advantages and disadvantages of different wireless standards. Connection to Cisco network equipment. Safety when working with personal wireless devices. Tools for finding problems in wireless networks.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures - 60 hrs, laboratory work - 14 hrs, consultations - 1 hr, independent work - 75 hrs, total - 150 hrs.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester evaluation is carried out by writing two test papers (up to 15 points each) and defending laboratory works (up to 30 points). The maximum number of points that can be obtained during the semester is 60 points. Final evaluation in the form of an exam - up to 40 points.
