Learning outcomes
PLO 2. To demonstrate the proper level of English language proficiency in written and oral communication, especially in professional and scientific communication, and present research results in English. PLO 7. To apply knowledge of expressive, emotional, and logical language means, and speech techniques to achieve the desired pragmatic result and successful communication.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful completion of the course presupposes students: to know basic orthographic, grammatical, lexical and stylistic norms of the literary English language; to be able to apply the norms of the literary English language in practice; to be able to read, write, listen and speak English at the level no low than B2 of CEFR.
Course content
The discipline is an essential component of the professional training of master students, aimed at the development of English language communicative competence and deepening students’ linguistic and sociocultural knowledge, expanding their vocabulary and intensive activation of language units, further improvement of English language skills (speaking, reading, writing and listening), and mastering a wide range of conversational topics.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The modes of the course delivery encompass practical classes and self-study, which presuppose such activities as presentations, reports, oral answers to the questions, discussions, writing assignments (narratives, essays, letters, etc.), listening, vocabulary and grammar tests/quizzes. Active and interactive teaching methods are used in order to engage students in the educational process and unlock their creative potential.
Assessment methods and criteria
The form of summative assessment is an exam. The number of points for the exam is 24–40 (pass), the minimum that is added to the points for summative assessment. Students are admitted to the exam if they earn 36–60 points during formative assessment throughout the entire semester. The exam includes three tasks (see § 7 of the Syllabus).
