Learning outcomes
PLO 8. To know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of words, the history of Turkish and English languages and literatures and be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities.
PLO 13. Analyze and interpret works of Ukrainian and foreign fiction and oral folklore, determine their specificity and place in the literary process (according to the chosen specialization).
PLO 15. To carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of texts of different styles and genres.
PLO 22.1. Know the main stages and representatives of Azerbaijani literature, be able to analyze literary works.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Know:
1) general features of the development of Azerbaijani literature;
2) stages of formation of the written Azerbaijani literary language;
3) trends in the development of Turkic literatures in the modern era;
4) apply the acquired skills in the analysis of linguistic units in practice within the student's language competence.
Be able to:
5) use basic and professionally oriented knowledge of the basics of philology, history, sociology and cultural studies;
6) apply the acquired knowledge in practice.

Course content
New and Contemporary Azerbaijani Literature is considered as an academic discipline that covers and introduces the conceptual foundations of the analysis of the Azerbaijani literary process; Azerbaijani literary creativity in the eighteenth and first half of the nineteenth century; Azerbaijani literature of the twentieth century, Azerbaijani literature of the period of the Second World War, Azerbaijani literature after the Stalinist regime, Azerbaijani literature after independence, and the cultural revolution in Azerbaijani literature of the present.
The discipline "Modern and Contemporary Azerbaijani Literature" is taught in a set of practical classes and on the basis of independent study of methodological materials, and the discipline ends with an exam.
