Learning outcomes
PLR 2. Effectively work with information: select the necessary information from various sources, in particular from specialized literature and electronic databases, critically analyze and interpret it, organize, classify and systematize it. PLR 7. To understand the main problems of philology and approaches to their solution using appropriate methods, in particular innovative interdisciplinary approaches of applied (computer) linguistics and information technologies, and to explain their relationship in a holistic system of interdisciplinary knowledge. PLR 15. To carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of texts of various styles and genres. PLN 17 Collect, analyze, systematize and interpret the facts of language and speech and use them to solve complex problems and problems in specialized areas of professional activity and/or study.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Know general information about the nature, structure, functions, universal characteristics of language, types and functions of language units; to have the skills of analysis of language units, forms and syntactic constructions, processing and interpretation of scientific texts.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to acquaint students with the main issues and problems of linguistics, with the conceptual and terminological apparatus of the science of language, and outline the methodological coordinate system in which all linguistic disciplines are taught that prepare a specialist philologist. The discipline introduces students to the most important scientific concepts about the nature, functions, origin, laws of language development, its connections with extralinguistic phenomena, the main problems and questions of linguistics, the directions of linguistic research, the structure of the language system, the characteristics and functions of the constituent units of its structural levels Provides the necessary theoretical and methodological basis for the study of other linguistic disciplines.

Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment. Knowledge control is carried out according to the ECTS system, which provides for a two-level evaluation of the learned material, in particular, the evaluation of theoretical training, which makes up 40% of the total grade, and the evaluation of practical training, which makes up 60% of the total grade. Assessment of semester work: 1. Oral answer: 18/9 points; 2. Additions, participation in the discussion: 10/7 points; 3. Tests: 16/10 points; 4. Control work with open answers: 16/10. Final assessment: exam
