Learning outcomes
PLO 8. Know and understand the system of language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of German language and literature, be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and techniques of oral and written texts of different genres and styles creation in Ukrainian, German and English. PLO 12. Analyse language units, determine their interaction, and characterize linguistic phenomena and the underlying processes. PLO 13. Analyze and interpret works of Ukrainian and foreign fiction and oral folk art, determine their specificity and place in the literary process (according to the chosen specialization). PLO 15. Perform linguistic, literary and translation analysis of texts of different styles and genres.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The program is designed for students who have studied the complex discipline of History of Foreign Literature: Part 1 "Introduction to Literary Studies", Part 2 "Ancient Literature", Part 3. "Literature of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance" for the 1st and 2nd semesters and have the appropriate level of knowledge. The student must know: basic literary terms; principles of analysis of a literary work; characteristic features and creativity of the main representatives of the ancient and Western European literary tradition of previous epochs; be able to: obtain the necessary information from literary lexicons, to the analytical reading of literary works; keep a reader's diary and glossary; have the skills of research and work with literary studies, production of complex oral and written communications.
Course content
he subject of the discipline includes the study of patterns of development of the literary process of XVIII-XIX centuries, and the originality of problems and poetic features of the respective periods: Enlightenment, Romanticism, Realism, Symbolism, Naturalism. The course acquaints students with the works of the most prominent representatives of Western European and American literature, placing it in the world literary and cultural context. The discipline contributes to the learning of a set of concepts related to the history of foreign literature of the XVIII-XIX centuries (main movements, genres, styles, ideological and artistic concepts, aesthetic programs), as well as the acquisition of skills of modern textual analysis, taking into account the peculiarities of the historical and cultural context. Training is conducted in the form of lectures and seminars and independent work of students. Form of final semester control - test.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Educational activities: answer at seminars, writing a terminological dictionary, preparation of a scientific abstract, creative presentation, writing a synopsis of literary-critical sources, final test. Teaching methods: lecture, presentation, seminar, independent work, discussion.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final grade for the course is formed as the sum of the points of the current control and does not provide for additional measures of the final grade. Forms of current control include answers to seminars (max 40 / min 24 points), keeping a reader's diary, terminological dictionary, synopsis of literary critical sources (max 7 / min 4 points), preparation of a creative presentation (max 5 / min 3 points) and abstract (max 8 / min 5 points) and writing two modular tests (max 40 / min 24 points). In total, the forms of final control are max 100 / min 60 points. Students who did not score at least 60 points during the semester, need to write material on the topics on which the debt arose, in the form of writing independent papers, essays.
