Learning outcomes
PLO 8. Know and understand the system of language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of German language and literature, be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and techniques of oral and written texts of different genres and styles creation in Ukrainian, German and English. PLO 12. Analyse language units, determine their interaction, and characterize linguistic phenomena and the underlying processes. PLO 13. Analyze and interpret works of Ukrainian and foreign fiction and oral folk art, determine their specificity and place in the literary process (according to the chosen specialization). PLO 15. Perform linguistic, literary and translation analysis of texts of different styles and genres.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Knowledge of theoretical foundations: literary studies and ancient Greek mythology at the level of the secondary school program. 2. Ability: to carry out a basic literary analysis of an artistic text, to distinguish between literary eras, directions, styles and phenomena.
Course content
The course "Ancient literature" is a semester discipline (2 ECTS credits), consisting of two parts: Part 1. "Literature of Ancient Greece"; Part 2. "Literature of Ancient Rome". Within the framework of Part 1, the attention is focused on the general trends of the development of ancient Greek mythology and literature, the differences between the actual Greek and Roman cultural and literary discourses are emphasized, an idea is formed about the development of the main genres of literature of Ancient Greece, in particular, epics, lyrics and drama. Part 2 is aimed at the analysis of the reactualization of classical artistic patterns and intertexts of ancient Greek literature within the framework of the ancient Roman literary process, as well as the study of the main literary phenomena and figures of this process.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Explanatory and illustrative method, method of problem-based learning (problem lecture), heuristic method, analytical tasks, educational discussions at seminar classes, preparation of essays, independent work of students.
Assessment methods and criteria
Current assessment: answer to the seminar class, essay, final test with open answers. The final assessment is an exam. Evaluation criteria for each form of control are given in the course program.
